Podium Alternatives in Canada: 7 Options Compared on Price, Contracts and CASL

Quick answer

The main Podium alternatives for Canadian businesses are NiceJob (London, Ontario, from $75 USD a month, no contract), GatherUp ($99 USD a month billed annually), Birdeye (quote only), HighLevel (from $97 a month), Broadly ($799 a month) and Google's free review link. Podium publishes no prices. Compare contract terms and CASL consent before switching.

Podium is a well-known platform for review requests, customer texting, webchat and payments. It is also one of the tools owners most often ask to replace, usually because of price or contract terms. This page compares the alternatives a Canadian service business can actually buy, using only prices each vendor publishes, and covers the Canadian rules (CASL and Google's review policy) that apply whichever tool you pick.

What are the best Podium alternatives in Canada?

We read each vendor's own pricing page on October 31, 2026. "Not published" means the page asks you to contact sales.

Checked October 2026. Currencies are as each vendor states. HighLevel and Broadly do not state a currency on the pages we read. Clinics comparing Podium with Weave should note Weave's pricing page says plans start from $199 a month, with no currency stated.

How much does Podium cost in Canada?

Podium does not publish prices. Its pricing page lists features and plan comparisons but sends buyers to a sales demo, and the AI Employee is sold as an add-on to any plan. So the only way to know your price is a quote, and the only fair way to compare quotes is to ask every vendor the same questions in writing (see the switching checklist below).

Owners do share what they were quoted. A new cleaning business owner on r/smallbusiness said both Birdeye and Podium quoted over $300 a month. That is one owner's report, not a published price, and others in the thread said they had negotiated lower by mentioning competing quotes.

What does a year of each tool cost for one location?

Monthly prices hide the real commitment. Here is the simple 12-month arithmetic for one location, using only the published prices above, before taxes, texting fees and currency conversion.

Arithmetic on published prices checked October 2026. Not a quote. Your price may differ by location count, add-ons and billing period.

If your scheduling, practice management or field service software already sends review requests, check that before paying for a second tool. Many owners pay twice for the same text message.

Why do businesses leave Podium and Birdeye?

We read recent threads where owners discussed these tools. Paraphrased:

  • One business said Podium delivered on reviews and texting and was easy to onboard, but hit limits as the business grew, especially syncing with other software and running more complex workflows.
  • In a thread asking whether Birdeye and similar platforms are worth it, one commenter said their contract auto-renewed and they could not cancel, and another asked the poster to check for an auto-renew clause before signing. Another user said they stopped once a feature they valued was removed.
  • An owner finding Birdeye expensive and slow to set up was told it is priced for multi-location chains, and one reply said they simply use the free Google Business app to request reviews.
  • The cleaning business owner above was told that at eight reviews, monitoring software solves a problem they do not have yet. The advice: ask every client, send a reminder text, and reply to every review within a day.

The pattern is consistent. Owners rarely complain that review platforms do not work. They complain about price relative to their size, contract terms, and paying for features built for chains.

Which Podium features does a small Canadian business actually need?

Podium bundles reviews, phones, webchat, a shared inbox, payments, text marketing, automations and AI. Most owner-led service businesses use three of these heavily:

  1. Review requests after every job or visit, by text and email, with a reminder. This is the core value, and every tool in the table does it.
  2. Missed call text back, so a caller who hits voicemail gets a text within seconds and the lead stays alive. See our missed call text back guide for Canada.
  3. One inbox for texts, web chat and form leads, so nothing sits unanswered.

Payments, mass text marketing and multi-location reporting matter for retailers and chains. If you will not use them, do not pay for them. Write down the three things you need, then compare only on those.

What about the AI add-ons? Podium sells an AI Employee as an add-on, Birdeye now markets AI "coworkers", HighLevel prices AI Employee plans per sub-account and Broadly sells an AI Workforce bundle. These can answer messages and book time, but they differ a lot in how they handle phone calls, French-speaking callers and handoff to a person. Before paying for one, test it yourself: call after hours, ask an unusual question, and ask in French if your customers do. Our guide to what an AI receptionist can and cannot do lists what to test, and the answer to whether you need one at all usually comes from your own missed-call count.

Is it legal to text customers for reviews in Canada?

Usually, yes, if you follow two sets of rules. This is general information, not legal advice.

CASL. A review request that also promotes your business is likely a commercial electronic message under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. CASL recognizes two kinds of consent. Express consent is agreement to receive messages and has no time limit unless withdrawn. Implied consent can come from an existing business relationship, for example a customer who bought from you or sent an inquiry, but it is time-limited. Every message also needs to identify you and include a way to unsubscribe. Our CASL-safe review request text templates and implied consent timer cover the details.

Google's review policy. Google does not allow businesses to offer incentives such as payments, discounts or free goods or services in exchange for reviews, and removes incentivized reviews from Maps. Ask everyone the same way, and do not offer a draw or discount for a review. See Google's customer review policy explained.

Whatever tool you choose, check that it lets you record how and when consent was given, honours unsubscribe requests automatically, and does not filter happy customers to Google while sending unhappy ones elsewhere.

How do you switch from Podium without losing reviews?

Your Google reviews belong to your Google Business Profile, not to Podium, so they stay when you leave. What you need to move is everything around them:

  1. Read your contract for the term end date, renewal clause and notice period. Diarize the notice deadline.
  2. Export your contacts, conversation history and any consent records you rely on for CASL.
  3. Phone numbers. If you used Podium Phones or a Podium texting number, ask how to port it before you cancel.
  4. Website widgets. Remove Podium's webchat and review widgets and replace them on the same day, so visitors never see a broken box.
  5. Review link. Get your own Google review link or QR code from your Business Profile, and put it in the new tool.
  6. Integrations. List every system that sent Podium job or visit data, and reconnect them to the new tool.
  7. Run both for a week if the contract allows, then cut over.

Ask each new vendor the same written questions: price for your locations in CAD or USD, setup fee, texting fees, contract length and renewal, cancellation notice, data export, and where customer data is stored.

Which Podium alternative fits which business?

  • Just starting, under about 20 reviews: use Google's free review link and a saved text template. Build the habit before buying software. Our Google review request templates help.
  • Trades and home services that want no contract: NiceJob, which publishes USD prices and has a London, Ontario address.
  • Review requests plus feedback surveys, several locations: GatherUp, priced per location in USD.
  • Chains and franchises: Birdeye or Podium, priced by quote.
  • Agencies or technical owners: HighLevel, if you will build and maintain the workflows yourself and budget for usage charges.
  • Owner-led firms that want it done for them: AGNT/01, below.

Where does AGNT/01 fit?

AGNT/01 is not a software subscription you set up yourself. We build and run the system: a website that books clients, Google review automation that sends a CASL-safe request after every visit, and on Growth a 24/7 AI front desk that answers calls, chats and texts, follows up on every lead and books appointments. Pricing is published: Build from $999 one-time, or Growth at $1,999 plus $999 a month (CAD), taxes extra. Review automation is included in Build. See published pricing. Ottawa businesses can also read Google review management in Ottawa.

Podium alternatives in Canada: FAQ

What is the best Podium alternative in Canada?

It depends on what you use Podium for. For review requests without a contract, NiceJob publishes prices from $75 USD a month. GatherUp is $99 USD a month billed annually for one location. Google's own review link is free. AGNT/01 runs reviews, booking and an AI front desk for you in CAD.

How much does Podium cost per month?

Podium does not publish prices on its pricing page; plans are quoted by its sales team and the AI Employee is an add-on. One owner on Reddit reported quotes of over $300 a month from both Podium and Birdeye, but that is a single report, not a published price.

Is there a free alternative to Podium?

Yes, for the basics. Google Business Profile gives every business a free review link and QR code, and you can send it by text or email yourself. You lose automation and reminders, but for a new business that is often enough.

Is NiceJob Canadian?

NiceJob's pricing page lists an address in London, Ontario and offers English and French. Its plans are priced in US dollars, starting at $75 USD a month, with no contract.

Do I need consent to text customers for Google reviews in Canada?

Usually. A review request that promotes your business is likely a commercial electronic message under CASL, which needs express or implied consent, identification and an unsubscribe option. Implied consent from a purchase is time-limited. This is general information, not legal advice.

Will I lose my Google reviews if I cancel Podium?

No. Reviews belong to your Google Business Profile, not to the review platform. You do need to export contacts, port any phone number Podium provided and replace website widgets before you cancel.

Can I offer a discount for a Google review?

No. Google's policy prohibits offering incentives such as payments, discounts or free services in exchange for reviews, and it removes incentivized reviews.
