Missed call text back software sends an automatic text to a caller you could not answer. In Canada, phone apps like Quo and platforms like HighLevel, Podium and Housecall Pro all offer some form of it, with listed prices from US$15 to US$599 a month. Pick by what else you need. Keep the text short, identify your business and include a STOP option.
Most owners shop for this by price, then discover the real cost is the carrier registration, the extra phone seats and the setup time. This page lays out what five kinds of tools list on their own pricing pages, a calculator for your monthly cost, and the CASL basics for a text you send to a stranger.
Prices below are the vendors' listed US dollar prices, checked 5 November 2026. We do not sell any of these tools. If you want the wording first, start with the missed call text back templates.
What is missed call text back software?
It watches your business line. When a call goes unanswered, it sends a text to the caller within seconds, usually something like "Sorry we missed you, how can we help?". The caller replies by text, and you or your team pick up the conversation when you are free.
That is the whole feature. Where tools differ is what surrounds it: a new phone number or your existing one, shared inboxes, job booking, review requests and AI that answers the call itself.
Which missed call text back software fits a Canadian business?
Here is what each vendor's own pricing page listed on 5 November 2026. All figures are in US dollars; convert at your own rate.
| Tool | Type | Listed price | Text back on missed calls | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quo | Business phone app | US$15, $23 or $35 per user a month billed yearly; US$19, $33 or $47 monthly | Auto-replies to texts, missed calls or voicemails listed on all plans | US texting needs carrier registration: one-time US$19.50 plus US$1.50 to US$3 a month. Calls and texts to US and Canadian numbers are included, subject to fair use. |
| HighLevel | Marketing and CRM platform | Agency plans of US$97, $297 and $497 a month | Listed as a feature: Settings, Phone System, Voice, Voicemail and Missed Call Text Back | The listed plans are agency plans, so a single business may find it more than it needs. Check phone and text usage fees in its help centre. |
| Podium | Messaging and review platform | Core US$399 and Pro US$599 a month; phone seats US$30 per user (1 to 4 users), US$25 (5 or more) | "Missed Call Automation" is listed under Podium Phones | The pricing page lists a US$500 network optimization fee per location for phones and a US$5 a month base 10DLC fee for US locations. |
| Housecall Pro | Field service software | Basic from US$59 a month billed annually, 1 user | We did not see a missed call text listed on the pricing page. Ask before you buy. | Best if you also want quoting, invoicing and online booking. |
| AI receptionist | Answers the call, then texts | See published pricing | The AI picks up and talks to the caller, so fewer calls count as missed | Covered in our AI receptionist cost guide. |

A rule of thumb: if you only want the text, a phone app is the lightest option. If you already run a CRM or a field service tool, check whether it includes the feature before you add another subscription.
How much will missed call text back software cost, and does it pay for itself?
Enter your own numbers. The prices are the listed US dollar figures from the table. Everything else is your assumption, so treat the result as a comparison, not a forecast.
Is missed call text back legal in Canada under CASL?
CASL, Canada's anti-spam law, covers commercial electronic messages, and the CRTC says that includes texts. For those, the CRTC lists three requirements: consent, identification and contact information, and a working unsubscribe mechanism. For a text, the CRTC's FAQ says a reply of STOP or Unsubscribe is an acceptable way to unsubscribe.
Whether your auto-reply counts as a commercial message depends on what it says. A text that only answers an enquiry is different from one that promotes a sale. If you are unsure, include your business name and a STOP line anyway, and keep promotions out of the first text. This is general information, not legal advice.
What should the first text say?
Keep it under two lines. Name your business, say what you can do next, and give an opt-out. For example: "Hi, this is Maple Plumbing. Sorry we missed your call. Reply here with what you need and we will text back shortly. Reply STOP to opt out." More wording by trade is in the template library, and a done-for-you setup is on the Canadian service page.
When is a text back not enough?
A text recovers callers who are willing to type. It does not help the caller with a flooded basement who wants a voice right now. For urgent trades and law, medical and dental offices, an answered call beats a recovered one. Missed call text back software: FAQ
What is the best missed call text back software?
It depends on what else you need. A phone app like Quo is the lightest option, HighLevel and Podium are broader platforms, and Housecall Pro suits field service teams that want quoting and invoicing too. Compare listed prices and ask each vendor whether the missed call text is included in your plan.
How much does missed call text back cost?
On the vendors' own pages, listed plans ranged from US$15 per user a month for Quo billed yearly to US$599 a month for Podium Pro. Carrier registration, phone seats and usage fees can add to that, so use the calculator above with your own numbers.
Is missed call text back legal in Canada?
CASL requires consent, identification and a working unsubscribe mechanism for commercial electronic messages, and the CRTC says a STOP reply works for texts. Whether a given auto-reply is commercial depends on its content. Keep the first text short and non-promotional, and get legal advice if unsure.
Do I need a new phone number for missed call text back?
It depends on the tool. Quo gives each user a new or ported number, and Podium lists a feature to keep your current business number. Check how each vendor handles your existing line before you sign up.
Is an AI receptionist better than missed call text back?
They solve different problems. A text back recovers callers who will reply by text. An AI receptionist answers the call, so urgent callers get a voice. Many businesses use both: AI first, text as the fallback.
