A Canadian law firm needs eight things in its phone and follow-up toolkit: an after-hours voicemail greeting, a missed-call text, a consult confirmation, a message form, an intake flow, a CASL check, a missed call cost estimate and a vendor scorecard. This library links each one, with English and French versions where offered.
This library gathers the scripts, builders and checklists for Canadian law firms in one place. Every item is general information for firm administration, not legal advice, and none of it replaces your law society's rules. Have the managing lawyer approve any wording before it goes live.
What scripts and templates does a law firm need first?
Four moments cause most of the lost first impressions: the call after hours, the call nobody picks up, the booked consult and the follow-up message. Pick yours and the picker names the page to open.
Which law firm scripts and templates are in the library?
The table lists every page, what you get and when to use it. Checked November 2026.
| Item | What you get | Use it when | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| After-hours voicemail script builder | English and French greeting with an urgent-matter path | Caller is sent to voicemail | Builder |
| Missed-call text back scripts | Three CASL-aware SMS scripts in English and French, with a length checker | Caller hangs up before anyone answers | Scripts |
| Consultation confirmation SMS | Confirmation text and document checklist, English or French | A consult is booked | Template and checklist |
| Legal message form | The fields a legal message should capture | Staff or a service takes a message | Field list |
| AI legal intake flow | A sample intake flow with a conflict-check handoff | You automate first contact | Flow and scripts |
| CASL checker for law firms | Which texts and emails need consent | Before you send any follow-up | Checker |

What rules apply to scripts a law firm sends to callers?
Three sets of rules matter. First, your law society's rules on confidentiality, conflicts and marketing: the Law Society of Ontario, the Barreau du Québec and other provincial bodies publish their own. Second, CASL for any commercial text or email, which covers consent, sender identification and an unsubscribe route. Third, federal and provincial privacy law for the personal information a caller shares.
A practical rule that travels across all three: collect the name, contact details, other parties and matter type first, and hold the detailed story until conflicts clear. Pages in this library follow that approach, and each links to its own official sources.
Can AI write or send these scripts for a law firm?
AI can draft and deliver them, but a lawyer remains responsible for the wording and for supervising the tool. An AI receptionist should never give legal advice or decide whether a conflict exists. Our guide to ChatGPT for lawyers in Canada and the best AI receptionist for law firms page cover how to supervise it.
How do I roll these scripts out in one afternoon?
Start with the voicemail greeting, because it takes ten minutes and helps every after-hours caller. Add the missed-call text next, after checking consent rules. Then set up the consultation confirmation. Leave full intake automation for last, once the first three are stable and the team trusts the handoff to a lawyer.
Law firm templates: FAQ
Are these law firm templates legal advice?
No. They are general information for firm administration. Have a lawyer at your firm approve all wording against your law society's rules before use.
Do the templates come in French?
The voicemail builder, missed-call text scripts and consultation confirmation include French versions. Have a fluent reviewer check any French before it goes live.
Can a law firm send automatic texts to callers?
Often yes, but commercial messages fall under CASL, which needs consent, sender identification and an unsubscribe route. Use the CASL for law firms page to check your case.
What should intake collect before a conflict check?
Keep it to name, contact details, other parties, matter type and any urgent deadlines. Hold the detailed facts until conflicts clear.
Can an AI receptionist give legal advice to callers?
It should not. An AI receptionist can answer questions about hours and process and collect intake details, but legal advice and conflict decisions belong to a lawyer.
Where can I see published prices for answering services?
The legal answering service Canada page lists published prices with currency and source. For AGNT/01 pricing, see the published pricing on the home page.
