A customer tells you they left a review. You open your profile and it is not there. Before you assume Google is against you, know that most missing reviews come down to one of eight causes, and Google's own help pages explain all of them. This page turns those pages into a diagnosis you can run in about fifteen minutes.
If whole batches of older reviews have vanished from your profile this year, our separate guide on Google reviews disappearing in 2026 covers that pattern. This page is for the more common case: a new review that never appears, or a handful that went missing.
Why are my Google reviews not showing up?
Google's page on missing or delayed reviews lists the main reasons. Reviews are checked against Google's policies before they appear, which can take a few days. Merged profiles can take a few days to show reviews from both. Customers on older phones or older versions of Maps can fail to post at all. Reviews removed for policy violations are not restored. And in certain situations Google may temporarily turn off reviews for some profiles or business categories.
Add two causes from Google's other pages and you have the full list: automated spam detection, which Google says on its report reviews page can occasionally remove legitimate reviews by mistake, and duplicate profiles, where the review lands on a listing you did not know existed. Google's page on moving reviews confirms that a duplicate created after a move or ownership change can hold reviews you expected on your main profile.
How long does it take for a Google review to show up?
Google does not publish a fixed time. Its help page says the policy check "might take a few days" in some cases, and the same wording applies after merging two profiles. In practice, give a new review a few days before you start troubleshooting. If it still has not appeared after a week, work through the table below.
Owners on r/GoogleMyBusiness describe the same frustration, with threads about several reviews missing at once and no notice from Google. Those threads are useful for sentiment, but the reliable answers sit in Google's help centre, which is what the diagnosis below is built on.
How do I find out why a Google review is missing?
Work from the cheapest check to the most involved. The first three checks take minutes.
- Check from a signed-out browser. Open a private window, search your business name and city, and open the reviews. What you see there is what customers see.
- Wait out the policy check. If the review is new, give it a few days. Google says its policy check can delay a review.
- Ask the customer what they saw. Confirm they were signed in, used an up-to-date Maps app, reviewed the right listing, and did not edit or delete it.
- Search for a duplicate listing. Search your phone number and old address on Maps. If a second listing exists, ask support to move reviews rather than creating a new profile.
- Check your category and email. Confirm your primary category and look for any email from Google about restrictions or disabled reviews.
- Contact support with evidence. If none of the above explains it, send the reviewer name, date and a screenshot through the Business Profile contact form.
Use this table to match what you see with the likely cause and the fix.
| # | What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | A brand-new review is not visible yet | Still in Google's policy check | Wait a few days, then check again from a signed-out browser |
| 2 | Customer says they posted, nothing ever appeared | Older phone or outdated Maps app, or not signed in | Ask them to update Google Maps and sign in to a Google Account, then try again |
| 3 | Review appeared, then vanished | Removed for a policy violation, or edited or deleted by the reviewer | Ask the customer if they changed it; policy removals are not restored |
| 4 | A genuine, detailed review was removed | Automated spam detection made a mistake | Contact Business Profile support with the reviewer's name and date |
| 5 | Reviews missing after you merged two profiles | Merge still processing | Allow a few days, then contact support if they do not return |
| 6 | Customer's review is on a different listing | Duplicate profile after a move or ownership change | Ask support to move reviews; do not create another new profile |
| 7 | No one can leave reviews at all | Reviews turned off for your category, temporarily disabled, or a restriction for fake engagement | Check your primary category and email from Google; appeal any restriction |
| 8 | Reviews gone after a suspension was lifted | Removed during reinstatement | Contact support, as Google's page advises for this case |

Why did a customer's review disappear after it was posted?
Three reasons cover almost every case. First, the reviewer edited or deleted it; Google's page on managing reviews notes that customers can still change their review after you reply. Second, Google removed it for breaking a rule. Google's content policy bans reviews that are not based on a real experience, reviews posted from several accounts by one person, content posted because of an incentive, and reviews with links, phone numbers or email addresses in them. Third, the automated spam filter caught a legitimate review by mistake.
The incentive point catches honest owners. If a review was posted after a discount or draw for reviewers, Google treats it as rating manipulation even if the customer meant every word. The same goes for a sudden burst of reviews after a staff push, since the policy calls out unusual volumes or patterns of reviews. A steady, everyday ask is safer; our guide to getting more Google reviews for free shows how.
Can Google turn off reviews for my business?
Yes, in three situations. Google says it may temporarily disable reviews for certain profiles or categories to protect business owners. It has removed and turned off reviews for profiles primarily categorized as educational institutions for students aged 6 to 18, which is why a primary category matters; Google notes that universities, day cares and swim schools are excluded. And under its restrictions for policy violations, a profile caught with fake engagement can be blocked from new reviews, have existing reviews unpublished for a set period, or show a warning to customers. Google says it emails owners before applying a restriction, and you can appeal.
If your category is wrong, fix it first. Our Google Business Profile categories guide explains how to choose one. Google's manage reviews page also notes that reviews are only available in certain countries or regions and for certain categories, and that availability can change.
How do I get a missing Google review back?
It depends on why it went. Reviews removed for a genuine policy violation will not be restored, according to Google. Reviews removed by mistake, lost in a merge, sitting on a duplicate or removed after reinstatement are worth raising with support. Bring the reviewer's display name, the approximate date, a screenshot if the customer has one, and your profile link.
What not to do: do not ask the customer to post the same text again and again, since Google's policy treats repetitive content as a violation, and do not create a new profile to "reset" things. Google's page on moving reviews says plainly not to create a new profile because of a change in location or ownership. If the real problem is a fake review you want gone rather than a real one you want back, see how to report a fake Google review.
How do I contact Google about missing reviews?
Use the Business Profile contact form while signed in to the account that manages the profile. Choose the reviews topic, describe which review is missing and since when, and attach your evidence. Our guide on contacting Google Business Profile support from Canada walks through which route fits which problem. If your profile is suspended rather than just missing reviews, start with the suspension fix guide instead.
Google reviews not showing up: FAQ
Why is my Google review not showing up?
It may still be in Google's policy check, which can take a few days, or it may have been removed for a policy violation, filtered as spam, posted to a duplicate listing, or delayed by a recent profile merge.
How long does a Google review take to appear?
Google does not give a fixed time. Its help centre says the policy check can take a few days in some cases, so wait a few days before troubleshooting.
Why did Google remove a real customer's review?
Google uses automated spam detection and says it can occasionally remove legitimate reviews by mistake. Contact Business Profile support with the reviewer's name and the date if you believe that happened.
Can a removed Google review be restored?
Reviews removed for policy violations are not restored. Reviews lost by mistake, in a merge or after a reinstatement can be raised with Business Profile support.
Why can nobody leave reviews on my Business Profile?
Google may temporarily disable reviews for some profiles or categories, has turned them off for schools serving students aged 6 to 18, and can block new reviews as a restriction for fake engagement.
Do reviews move when my business changes address?
Google says it transfers reviews automatically when you move and keep the same name, except for some categories. Do not create a new profile for a move.
Should I ask the customer to post the review again?
Only if their first attempt never went through. Do not have them post the same text repeatedly, since Google treats repetitive content as a policy violation.
